Who publishes this site

Gold Value Hub is written and maintained by Daniel Whitfield. Daniel builds and updates the calculators, guides, and pricing setup on this site personally — there is no separate editorial team. You can read more on the About page, and reach out any time through the Contact page.

Where our gold price comes from

The 24K gold price shown throughout the site is fetched automatically from gold-api.com, a keyless feed for the live XAU (gold) spot price. We convert the troy-ounce spot price to a price per gram and refresh it automatically roughly once an hour.

Every automatic fetch is checked against a plausible price range before it is accepted, so a broken or garbled API response cannot silently corrupt the price shown to visitors. If a fetch fails, the site keeps the last good price rather than showing an error or a zero. Each calculator that uses the live price displays the exact price, when it was last updated, and its source directly above the calculator. If that price is more than roughly 26 hours old, the banner switches to an amber warning telling you to double-check it before relying on it.

This is an estimate, not a live trading feed. For time-sensitive decisions, confirm the current spot price with a market source such as Kitco or the LBMA before you buy or sell.

How the calculators work

Every calculator on this site uses the same underlying formula: Gold Value = Weight × Purity × Spot Price. We walk through that formula, with worked examples, in How Gold Buyers Calculate Gold Price. The karat-to-purity fractions we use (24K = 100%, 22K = 91.7%, 18K = 75%, 14K = 58.3–58.5%, 10K = 41.7%) are standard industry conversions, not our own estimates.

All of our calculators are free, do not require an account, and are informational only — they estimate melt value, not what any specific buyer will pay you. Actual offers depend on the buyer’s margin, refining costs, and local market conditions. See our Terms of Service for the full accuracy disclaimer.

How we handle mistakes

We check the site’s numbers against the formulas above periodically, but this is a small, one-person operation, and mistakes can slip through — in a calculator, in a guide, or in how a number is displayed. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us. Email goldvaluehub@gmail.com or use the Contact page with:

  • The page or calculator where you saw the issue
  • What you expected versus what you saw
  • Any inputs you used, if it was a calculator

We read every message. Confirmed errors are corrected on the live site as soon as we can.

Content updates

Guides and articles are reviewed and refreshed periodically, particularly when pricing methodology, units, or market conventions referenced in an article change. Calculators are updated whenever we find, or are told about, a bug in how they compute a result.
